Diary of an Esendex Employee:
I was introduced to Esendex via a recruiter who knew I wanted to make the move to an in-house Talent Acquisition role but wanted to maintain the international element I had in my prior agency role.

Before

I was introduced to Esendex via a recruiter who knew I wanted to make the move to an in-house Talent Acquisition role but wanted to maintain the international element I had in my prior agency role.

I had an initial interview with Nimira (HR Director), completed the verbal, numerical and psychometric tests and then met Demi (HR Advisor). The first interviews were via video, but I then met Nimira a final time in the office which gave me a good idea of what to expect.

I had a 4 week notice period, during which the team kept in touch with me, sent a lovely box of ‘Congratulations’ chocolates and arranged a dinner so I’d have a friendly face when I started!

Day 1

Having worked in recruitment for nearly 5 years and finding people new roles all the time, it felt very strange to be on the other side of the table and walking into a new job myself – I had completely forgotten what it was like!

The nerves quickly faded when I arrived at the Nottingham office and was greeted by Demi (Senior HR Advisor) and then Nimira (Head of HR), who showed me round the offices. Thanks to Esendex’s hybrid working policy, quite a few people were working from home, which suited me fine as there was little chance I would remember everyone’s names at this point!

Vanden (IT) then set me up with my laptop, passwords and all the other useful stuff. Ashleigh (Exec PA) had sent me a timetable for the first week which I was so grateful for – you never want to look like you’re twiddling your thumbs as a newbie.

Week 1

Days 2 and 3 were filled with the company induction led by Michelle (Learning & Development Manager). I was happy to hear that I was attending the first in-person induction session post-lockdown, as it was a great way to meet other new starters from different departments, and to start to understand the business. This consisted of sessions from each of the Exec team, presentations on the company history and values, and even included some product demos, which as I found really useful.

I spent some time with Demi running through the company perks – £350 vouchers at Christmas, 27 days holiday (plus your birthday and bank holidays!), company bonus and private medical and dental, to name a few.

Adam (Talent Acquisition Officer, the same as me) showed me the recruitment ropes and introduced me to some of the tools he uses to find great candidates to join the Commify team.

The rest of the week flew by, and ended nicely on Friday with a team lunch, as well as beer o’ clock, where I was introduced to the game ‘Dobble’ by Sarah and Chris in Finance.

And beyond…

By week 2, I was starting to feel much more settled, and started organising introductory meetings with line managers in the UK, France, Spain and Germany, as well as some of the external partners we work with. Right from the start, I was given ownership of my work and schedule, but there was always someone on hand to answer my (endless!) questions.

There have been many highlights of the first few months, the first of which includes sitting down with Richard (our CEO) for a coffee and a catch up on Google Meets, something which he does with every new starter. Pretty impressive I think for a company with nearly 300 employees.

Black Friday is an important time of the year for Esendex, and as we hit a company target, we all came together for lunch and won some Amazon vouchers.

The Christmas party was able to go ahead with some last minute precautions of lateral flow tests in place which again, was such a great way to meet people and put some faces to names in real life, rather than on Google Meets!

I returned in January genuinely looking forward to see what the next year brings, and have since been working on a huge variety of different roles, many of which are newly created due to growth.

It wasn’t an easy choice to leave my last company, but I am convinced that it was the right one!

If you too are interested in making the move to Esendex, don’t hesitate to check out our open roles https://ops.esendex.co.uk/careers/, or connect with me, Emma Feneley on LinkedIn.
